DAY TOUR FROM ROME TO AMALFI COAST (car and walking tour)
A daytrip to the most famous Italian coastline that was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site as a cultural landscape.
With your private guide you will explore The Amalfi Coast, a stretch of coastline on the southern coast of the Sorrentine Peninsula in the Province of Salerno in Southern Italy. The Amalfi Coast is a popular tourist destination, attracting thousands of tourists annually.
We will pick you up from your hotel in Rome and drive you to Positano (270 km/167 miles from Rome), it was a relatively poor fishing village during the first half of the twentieth century but it began to attract large numbers of tourists in the 1950s, especially after John Steinbeck published his essay about Positano in Harper’s Bazaar in May, 1953: “Positano bites deep”, Steinbeck wrote “It is a dream place that isn’t quite real when you are there and becomes beckoningly real after you have gone.”
We’ll then drive you to Amalfi, the main town of the coast on which it is located, it lies at the mouth of a deep ravine, at the foot of Monte Cerreto, surrounded by dramatic cliffs and coastal scenery; the town of Amalfi was the capital of the maritime republic known as the Duchy of Amalfi, an important trading power in the Mediterranean between 839 and 1200.
The last stop of our Amalfi Coast tour will be Ravello, it was founded in the 5th century as a shelter place against the barbarian invasions which marked the end of the Western Roman Empire; Ravello in the 9th century was an important town of the maritime republic of Amalfi; its scenic beauty makes it a popular tourist destination, and earned it a listing as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996.
