DAY TOUR FROM ROME TO CAPRAROLA & VITERBO (car and walking tour)
Full day private tour to visit Villa Farnese in Caprarola, masterpiece of Renaissance/Mannerist architecture, and the Medieval town of Viterbo, papal seat for twenty-four years, from 1257 to 1281.
With our Caprarola and Viterbo guided tour we’ll drive you across the beautiful hilly countryside North of Rome to reach the town of Caprarola (50 km/31 miles from Rome) famous for the Villa/Palazzo Farnese commissioned by Cardinal Alessandro Farnese, grandson of Pope Paul III, and built by the architect Giacomo Barozzi from Vignola between 1559 and 1573, with a great frescoes decoration made by some of the most famous Mannerist artists of the time such as Taddeo and Federico Zuccari, Raffaellino da Reggio, Antonio Tempesta,…etc. We will continue our private tour with a drive to Viterbo (80 km/50 miles North of Rome), one of the most preserved Medieval towns of Central Italy, where after lunch in a typical restaurant we’ll visit the Palazzo dei Papi (Palace of the Popes), where the first Conclave was made, and the Duomo (Cathedral of St. Lawrence).
