DAY TOUR FROM ROME TO SIENA
Siena is located in the central part of Tuscany Region, in the middle of a vast hilly landscape. The historic center of Siena has been declared by UNESCO a World Heritage Site; it is one of the nation’s most visited tourist attractions, famous for its cuisine, art, museums, medieval cityscape and the Palio, a horse race held twice a year.
We’ll pick you up from your hotel in Rome and drive you to Siena (230 km/143 miles; about 2 hours and 40 minutes drive). We will visit the Cathedral (Duomo), begun in the 12th century, is a masterpiece of Italian Romanesque-Gothic architecture; then we’ll continue our Siena tour with a visit to The Piazza del Campo, the shell-shaped town square, where, after lunch in a typical restaurant, we’ll visit Palazzo Pubblico, a great work of architecture itself with its tall tower, it houses an important art museum (masterpieces by Ambrogio Lorenzetti, Simone Martini and Pietro Lorenzetti). Time for a stroll in the historic center, shopping, and then drive back to Rome.
